Engage in Conflict Productively!

Conflict isn’t the problem - avoiding it is. Handled productively it builds engagement and better results. You can begin to build your capacity to handle conflict and frustration more effectively by using the Everything DiSC Productive Conflict profile.

In the Everything DiSC framework, frustration usually stems from your core personality priorities clashing with how others behave or communicate. Because every style has unique stress triggers, identifying these friction points helps reframe conflict from destructive reactions to productive engagements.

Understanding exactly what frustrates each style and how to address it depends on which profile type you are dealing with:

*Dominance (D) Style

Core Need: Results, control, and efficiency.

Frustration Triggers: Inefficiency, lack of control, having their authority challenged, or slow, overly cautious decision-making.

Destructive Response: Becoming blunt, aggressive, or dismissive.

What to do: Get straight to the bottom line, present options clearly, and act quickly.

*Influence (i) Style

Core Need: Collaboration, social recognition, and enthusiasm.

Frustration Triggers: Feeling rejected, social isolation, rigid routines, or being ignored.

Destructive Response: Lashing out, making emotional appeals, or dramatically withdrawing.

What to do: Keep conversations engaging, let them brainstorm out loud, and focus on team cohesion.

*Steadiness (S) Style

Core Need: Stability, collaboration, and supportive environments.

Frustration Triggers: Sudden changes, disrupted routines, unappreciated efforts, and conflict-filled or hostile environments.

Destructive Response: Agreeing verbally but resisting passively, or holding grudges.

What to do: Slow down, build trust, show appreciation, and avoid pushing sudden, major shifts on them without warning.

*Conscientiousness (C) Style

Core Need: Accuracy, logic, and stability.

Frustration Triggers: Ambiguity, lack of facts, strong emotional displays, or being forced to work with unproven ideas.

Destructive Response: Overly critiquing others, retreating inward, or building emotional barriers.

What to do: Bring data, give them time to analyze details, and avoid forcing them to make snap judgments.

*The CD (Conscientiousness/Dominance) Blend

Core Need: Quality results and structural independence.

Frustration Triggers: Incompetence, ambiguous goals, and having to depend on others for things they believe they can do better themselves.

Destructive Response: Micromanaging, being highly critical, or dismissing others' feelings to achieve an objective.

What to do: Provide clearly defined, measurable goals and give them the autonomy to work independently.
